Neuro-Developmental Treatment

These one, two, three, four and five-day workshops are designed to acquaint Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech & Language Pathologists with the Neuro-Developmental Treatment approach. The information presented will introduce current NDT principles including beginning assessment and problem-solving techniques. Participants will improve both their observational skills and direct handling skills to improve function in their clients with neuro-motor disorders such as CP, ASD, Down Syndrome and other neurodevelopmental differences. Through lecture, demos, and hands-on labs, participants will increase their knowledge and confidence in analyzing posture and movement challenges as they related to daily function. It is recommended that participants wear comfortable clothing for the treatment labs. In the three, four and five-day workshops*, there will also be hands-on practicums with children. In all NDT workshops, group discussion will address current worldwide trends in pediatric therapy, and include the integration of NDT within the participants’ practices.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Achieve a basic understanding of the components of movement in typical development 0-12 months.

  • Achieve a basic understanding of the components of atypical movement experienced by children with neuromotor challenges (cerebral palsy, developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorder).

  • Achieve a basic understanding of the components of typical postural reactions necessary for motor function.

  • Achieve a preliminary understanding of neuro-developmental treatment concepts and principles.

*While the one and two-day workshops do not have a maximum number of participants, the three, four and five-day workshops, due to their handling components, each has a maximum of 30 participants.
