Coaching Caregivers: Making Therapeutic Practice Most Sustainable

Do you wish your therapy sessions were more impactful in a family’s daily life? Too often therapeutic interventions are not sustainable in daily life practice. But when parents and caregivers understand and appreciate the rationale for the therapeutic practice and receive tips for simple things they can do every day to embed therapeutic goals and interventions into their lives, not only are desired results more attainable, but the process is more enjoyable for all. This workshop discusses the essential skills involved in communicating through coaching practices with caregivers – and making allies with the non-professionals who matter greatly in our clients’ lives.

Participants will Learn:

  • What is coaching and why is it important in the therapeutic process?

  • Attachment Theory, Attunement, Co-Regulation, Compassion, Body Language, Mindfulness – deeper awareness related to communication

  • Basics of Adult Learning Theory – how people learn differently so we may need to adjust how we present information depending on who we are with

  • There is always a reason for the behaviour – appreciating the various cognitive, emotional and sensory factors that influence complex behaviour so that we judge less and understand more

  • The critical relevance of stress and its opposite – safety – on the brain and the ability to learn and thrive

  • The value of carrying over the therapy process into everyday life

* Coaching Caregivers is either a two or three-day workshop. The three-day version includes more development of practical communication skills.

* There are no maximum numbers of participants in these workshops.
